Ryan Cyan was founded by Brandon Koay. In 1981, Brandon moved to London and gained a First Class diploma in tailoring and design. Brandon opened the first store in 1996 in Penang, Malaysia.

While raising his two children in London, Brandon continued his trade and worked freelance for London-based designers and tailors including Huntsman Saville Row.

Ryan Cyan is named after his two children.
